CHANNEL 4 STUDENT STINGS COMPETITION please note that the Channel 4 Student Stings competition is now no longer running. The last competitions were run in 2001. We have left these details here so that if you wish, you can re-use the brief.
The Brief for 1st and 2nd years Students: You must be in the 1st or 2nd year of your course (or NOT in your final year) Stings must be exactly 15 seconds long. They should be stylish, distinctive and attention grabbing. They must have a modern, cutting-edge feel to them. All animation techniques are eligible, including computer and other new technologies. We are keeping the brief deliberately broad, because we hope this will encourage you to allow your imaginations to run wild. Ideas should represent what you feel is best about Channel 4. This is as likely to be an abstract representation as a literal one. A broad theme (although we are not looking for literal interpretations of this) could be 'Death to Boredom'. Use as a starting point some key words that represent Channel 4's brand: innovative, irreverent, entertaining, youthful, outrageous, intelligent, witty, thought-provoking.
THIS YEARS BRIEF AND COMPETITION DETAILS:
Channel 4 Stings Animation Competition 2000 for 1st & 2nd Year Students Branding is incredibly important in today's multi-channel environment and therefore many channels run specially designed stings between programmes and ad breaks to help create a strong identity. Channel 4 is now running its student stings animation competition twice annually. Both competitions are designed for students of animation and multi-media design to come up with some fresh and original ideas for 15-second animated stings that will run between programmes. A selection committee at Channel 4 will commission up to 12 students each year to produce these animated channel idents for broadcast in autumn 2001. Channel 4 will pay each college £1000 for the production of each sting that is commissioned. The Stings Competition is open to students on graduate and postgraduate animation-related courses in the UK and Ireland. The next deadline is for 1st and 2nd year students or anyone not in their final year and the deadline for submissions is 06-Apr-2001.
