CHANNEL 4 STUDENT STINGS COMPETITION

SCHEDULE for 1st and 2nd Year student competition:

The deadline for Submissions is 6th April 2001. (Post-marked date)

We will make our decisions by 14th May 2001

We need the completed stings delivered by 20th July 2001

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Delivery can be on either film (16mm or 35mm) or tape (Beta SP or DigiBeta).

The aspect ratio should be 16:9 and the master tape should be supplied anamorphically converted.

You should also be aware that there are very strict guidelines regulating the use of flashing images. This is because such images can trigger epileptic fits in certain viewers. Please avoid using flashing, flickering or intermittent lights, images or repetitive patterns in your designs. We will send a full copy of the ITC guidelines on flashing images to short-listed candidates.

THIS YEARS BRIEF AND COMPETITION DETAILS CONT:

Finalists will be asked to explain how their ideas relate to the Channel 4 brand, i.e., what their sting is saying about watching Channel 4. This is very important so please think carefully about it.

You must leave space at the centre right of the screen for our Channel 4 logo, which is a number four within a white box. This will appear for a few seconds at the beginning and end of each sting. Please watch Channel 4 to see how this logo is used in current Channel branding. Your animation should not attempt to interact with this logo, but simply allow for its presence. Please include a representation of it in your story-board and designs.

Stings can either use simple sound effects or a music track, this could be your own or a fellow student's composition. We will also provide a selection of music tracks on CD to the short-listed candidates. Commercial music must not be used, as this will be difficult and expensive to clear. Where sound effects are used, they must also be cleared for use on Channel 4. Therefore, you should aim to create them yourself.

You should not attempt to copy the style of our existing on-screen branding (which uses colour bars moving vertically across the screen).

Students can submit up to a maximum of four ideas each.
